Dennis R. Hallahan, 83, of Dumont, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026.
Beloved husband of Barbara (née McFarlane) for 58 years. Dennis is survived by his children, Kelly Stewart and her husband, Scott, and Shawn Hallahan and his wife, Jenny, all of whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his dear sister, Lynn Hart, and her husband, Larry.
He was the cherished grandfather of Allison, Caitlin, and Matthew Stewart, and Hailey and Hannah Hallahan. He was also a devoted uncle to many nieces and nephews and a loyal friend to many.
Dennis was born in Teaneck, New Jersey, to the late Joseph and Alice Hallahan (née Holmes). He was predeceased by his beloved “Mom,” Rose Hallahan, and by his brothers, Joseph and Brian Hallahan.
Dennis proudly served his country in the United States Army before embarking on a long and successful career as a Warehouse Operations Manager in the food service industry. He was respected for his strong work ethic, dedication, and the friendships he built throughout his career.
An avid fisherman, Dennis was happiest on the water, whether deep-sea fishing for bluefish, fluke, tuna, and the occasional shark, or simply casting a line into the Hudson River. He was also a devoted sports fan who loved cheering for the New York Jets and the Boston Red Sox, especially when they were playing the New York Yankees.
Dennis also had a passion for cooking. He could often be found in the kitchen preparing dinner for his family or creating a feast to share during holidays and family celebrations. When he wasn’t in the kitchen, there was a good chance he was at the nearest Taco Bell—usually with a Facebook post to prove it.
Dennis enjoyed tending to his flower and vegetable gardens and took great pride in sharing his harvest with his wonderful neighbors, family, and friends, a simple gesture that reflected his generous heart. A lifelong animal lover, Dennis cherished the companionship of his parrots, Rosie and Birdie, and his beloved little dog, Mazie.
Dennis will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His kindness, generosity, quiet strength, unwavering love for his family, and wonderful sense of humor will forever be remembered. He leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and the legacy of a life well lived.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Dumont. Cremation will be private.
