John Gavin, 76, of Dumont, NJ, passed away on July 23, 2026.  Beloved husband of Deborah (née McGoohon).  Devoted father of David Gavin and his wife Lisa Maria, Caroline Neglia, and her fiancé Carl Carvalho.  Cherished grandfather of Gavin Neglia, step-grandchildren, Dukkha and Gutxi Van Buuren, and bonus-grandchildren, Sophia and Elianna Carvalho, and Michelle, Olivia, and James Holsworth.  Dear brother of Patrick Gavin and sister Ann Nolan.  Predeceased by his siblings, Evelyn, Joe, Jimmy, and Martin, and son-in-law, Ronald Neglia.

John was born in Ashfield, Castleblakeney, Co. Galway, Ireland, to Catherine (née Ford) and Michael Gavin.  He worked as a mechanic for the New York Transit Authority in Queens, NY, for many years.

John was an avid golfer and gardener.  He loved flowers and animals and was a charismatic storyteller. John Gavin was loved by everyone he met. He could fix anything and helped many people. John loved music, played banjo, sang beautifully, and played in several bands.

A celebration of John’s life will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 2 PM to 6 PM at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, 161 Washington Avenue, Dumont, NJ 07628.  A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, 120 Monroe Avenue, Cresskill, NJ 07626.

Cremation is private.
