Arnold F. O’Callaghan

Obituary

Arnold “Arnie” F. O’Callaghan, 77, of Dumont, passed away on May 3, 2026. A proud United States Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient who served in Vietnam, Arnie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose humor, resilience, and love for his family left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.

Arnie is survived by his beloved wife, Doreen (née Gannon), and his children: Dina (Edward) Schenone, Denise (David) Mahaffey, Arnie (Jackie) O’Callaghan, Danielle O’Callaghan, and Sean O’Callaghan and his partner, Nolan. He was the proud and cherished grandfather of nine grandchildren (Anthony, Jared, Sarah, Brendan, Caitlyn, Lucas, Elianna, Madalyn, and Evan) all of whom brought him immense joy.

Born in the Bronx to Mabel (née Moore) and George O’Callaghan, Arnie carried his New York spirit with him throughout his life including a long career at NYNEX. He was predeceased by his parents; his siblings George, John, Gertrude, Nancy, Dorothy, and Norberta; and his cousin Jimmy Walters.

Arnie was known for his quick wit, larger-than-life personality, deep love for music, laughter, and ability to tell a story at any moment. A trained singer, he loved to perform anywhere and everywhere, and never passed up a karaoke night. He was a passionate fan of New York sports — especially the Yankees and Rangers. He also loved reminding everyone that, back in his day, there weren’t many who could match his athletic ability.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home in Dumont. A mass will be offered Friday, May 8, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church in Dumont. He will be laid to rest at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown.
