Margaret Flaherty, 89, of Dumont, NJ passed away peacefully on July 21, 2022. Margaret was born to Ann and Michael Cunningham in Dunsallagh near Miltown Malbay, County Clare, Ireland. She was the second of nine children. At the age of 16, she immigrated to London where she worked as a waitress for five years. When she was 21 years old, she arrived in the United States. She lived in Jersey City and eventually settled in Washington Heights, NY. Margaret worked at Traveler’s Insurance Company as a rater for five years. She met her loving husband, Pat, and they married in 1963 and moved to Dumont in 1969, where Margaret tirelessly was a stay home mom to their four children.
Margaret will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Pat, her children, Ann Cotaj (Tony), Tom Flaherty (Erin), Eileen Brandt (John), and Patrick Flaherty (Desiree). She is the cherished grandmother of Nicholas, Andrew and Matthew Cotaj, Marcus Flaherty, Madison Flaherty, and Aleah Brandt. She is the dear sister of Jimmy Cunningham, Teresa O’Shea, Michael Cunningham, Joan Cunningham. Predeceased by her siblings, John, Vince, Mary and Irene. Also survived by many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews living in Ireland, England, Australia and America.
