Obituary

Matthew T. Shotwell, of New Milford, NJ, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2021, surrounded by his family. He had battled cancer courageously for four years.  Matt is survived by his loving wife, Lois (née Fall) of 56 years, his cherished daughters, Christine Shotwell-Riccardo and her husband Daniel and Michelle Tomasi, his four adoring grandchildren, Nicholas and Madelyn Tomasi, and Alexander and Aidan Riccardo.  Also survived by his caring sisters, Margaret Masiewicz, Theresa Dente, Mary Louise Briganti, Karen Venetz, and his brother, Robert Shotwell and his wife Lisa, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Born in Duryea, PA to the late Matthew J. and Grace Shotwell, he lived in New Milford for more than 50 years.  Matt proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Vietnam War.  Before retiring, he was a systems analyst with PSE&G for 36 years.  Matt loved to travel with his wife, and especially enjoyed the adventures of many U.S. national parks.  He enjoyed being with his family and spending summer vacations with his children and grandchildren.  Matt was a faithful member of the Old North Reformed Church, where he served as both Deacon and Elder.

Funeral Service Thursday, July 22nd, 10 AM at the Old North Reformed Church, Dumont.  Interment to follow at Woodside Cemetery, Dumont.  Matt’s life will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 21st, 4-8 PM at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave., Dumont.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Matt’s memory to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Ave., NY, NY 10065; https://www.mskcc.org/ or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105; https://www.stjude.org/
