Obituary

Mitchell D. Di Salle 92, of Dumont peacefully passed away on March 15, 2021 in the loving care of Holy Name Hospital Hospice.  He was the oldest son of Pasquale and Frances (Di Cicco) Di Salle. Mitch loved music and learned to play the piano and the organ, all which he credits to his father who was a professional musician. The late Rose Di Salle convinced him to work in the insurance business with her, and he worked his way up from the mail room all the way up to department manager in NYC. There was a short detour after high school, as he thought he wanted to be a Roman Catholic priest. But after studying for a few years he realized his calling was not that of the priesthood and went back to insurance. After the passing of his father the family decided to move to New Jersey and settled in Dumont. Mitchell worked part time for Supino Davies and company in Fort Lee New Jersey for 35 years before retiring in July 2019 at the age of 91.

The late Albert Di Salle Is responsible for introducing the entire family to the Bible.  Because if their new commitment to studying the Bible, Northern Valley Evangelical Free Church in Cresskill became their new place of worship.  It was there that Mitch discovered his true gift—the gift of teaching. He taught a Bible class for adults there for over 39 years. He also served in many roles over his forty years there, including elder, deacon, and leader of Wednesday night prayer meetings. The women’s Bible study group called S.A.L.T. always enjoyed it when he came to teach them a deeper understanding of the Bible. He always looked forward to meeting with them, and he always had an invitation to the annual brunch that they held. As a bachelor, with no children, and the last member of his family (since 2000), Mitchell enjoyed the love, fellowship, and meals of his church family given so freely in Christian love.  Since he trusted in Christ as his Lord and Savior, Mitch believed what Jesus said in Luke 23:43, “Truly I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

The funeral will be this Thursday, March 18th at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave, Dumont, with the viewing from 9 to 11 AM, and the service at 11 Am.  The burial will follow immediately after the service in the Bronx, NY.
