Dorothy J. Ledermann (née Hishon), 90, of Dumont, NJ, entered into eternal life on January 1, 2026. Predeceased by her beloved husband, George Ledermann (2024) who she shared 67 years of marriage with. She is also predeceased by her three sisters Marianne, Patricia, and Kathleen. Devoted mother of the predeceased Michael (2001), James, Patricia Hoff and her husband Ralph, and Dennis and Donna. Cherished grandmother of Robert, Richard, Michael, Amy, Ryan, and Jillian. And great-grandmother of Alice.
Dorothy was born in Teaneck, NJ to the late Dorothy (née Smith) and Joseph Hishon. She began her career as a clothing buyer in New York City. After raising her children, she then became a crossing guard with the Borough of Dumont where she worked for 24 years before retiring. Dorothy loved spending time with her family, traveling with her husband, and spending time at their beach house. She loved taking annual trips with her friends that she has had since high school. Dorothy loved her collection of wooden ducks, gardening, and going to the casino with friends and family.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, 161 Washington Avenue, Dumont. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, 280 Washington Avenue, Dumont. Dorothy will be laid to rest with her husband at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Dorothy’s memory to Veteran’s Affairs.
