Obituary

A devoted husband, beloved father, and grandfather, Ramon R. Ermita, was a man of deep faith, who passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025 at the age of 82. He is predeceased by the love of his life, Lucille Ermita, and is survived by his three loving children, Brandon (Michelle) Ermita, Terence Jason Ermita, and Maia (Geoff) Canlas. He was also a doting grandfather to his five cherished grandchildren, who were the joys of his life – Isabella, Jacqueline, Angelina, Cory, and Zoe. Ramon will be dearly missed by his family and friends, near and far.

Ramon was born on August 23, 1943 to Milagros (née Ramos) and Crisogono Ermita in Batangas, Philippines. Chasing after his girlfriend-turned wife Lucille, Ramon immigrated to the United States in 1968, and a self-made accountant, and later traveled around the world as an auditor for Sealed Air Corporation in Saddle Brook, before becoming a full-time ‘GPM’ (GrandPa Mon) to his grandchildren. As a former resident of Bergenfield, Ramon served his community as a Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 291 where he mentored young people – including his two sons. With patience, kindness, and a spirit of adventure, he instilled in them integrity, leadership, and love for nature, and was even awarded the Bronze Pelican Award – an award given to those who have made significant contributions to Scouting in the Catholic faith. Those lessons remained at the heart of who he was throughout his life – both in his family life and in the local community.

As a devout Catholic, Ramon was rarely without his rosary beads, as he prayed the rosary daily, a sacred practice he embraced not only as an act of faith but also as a spiritual bond connecting him to his family in the Philippines. His quiet devotion and steady faith served as an anchor for those around him, offering comfort, strength, and a living example of humility and grace.

After 48 years of marriage, once Lucille passed away from her battle with cancer, what remained was Ramon’s greatest joy – caring for and spending time with his grandchildren. Whether he was sharing stories from his early days as a newcomer to this country, or offering gentle guidance to his nieces and nephews, his presence was a source of warmth, wisdom and love.

Ramon will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his generous heart, and the way he lived his life in service to others. His legacy of prayer, family devotion, and community service will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.

Family and friends are invited to honor Ramon’s life at a viewing scheduled for Tuesday, September 23rd 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday September 24th at 10 AM at Our Lady of Victories Church, 150 Harriot Avenue, Harrington Park, NJ. Ramon will be laid to rest with his beloved Lucille at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes.
