PLEASE NOTE THAT THE VENUE FOR THE WAKE OF ALICE AND BENEDICT ROMEO HAS CHANGED. THE WAKE WILL TAKE PLACE AT ST. THERESE CHURCH, 120 MONROE AVE., CRESSKILL ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2025, 2:00 PM TO 8:00 PM.
ALICE ROMEO
Alice Romeo (nee Husson) of Cresskill, passed away peacefully on January 21st 2025, Benedict (Ben) Romeo passed away peacefully February 21st 2025 surrounded by their loving family. Alice and Ben were married for 57 years. They were loving parents to Brian (Susan), James, and Kristin Hayward (Paul). Cherished grandparents to Trevor, Evan, Bennett, Carly, Alexandra, Jack and Ryan.
Alice had a loving heart bigger than her petite frame. She was always on the lookout for a good bargain and would always pass on any money saving tips to her family and friends.
Alice especially loved using coupons and getting the lowest price on gas for her beloved Cadillac. Alice was an unusually fast driver. Often times she was seen speeding around town trying to get to the next sale.
BENEDICT ROMEO
Ben was the longest serving mayor in Cresskill history. He was mayor from 1999 until his passing. With Alice by his side, Ben improved the lives of everyone he encountered. Ben was always about making Cresskill better. His accomplishments are too numerous to mention.
Ben also founded the McCarthy Hillside Agency and First Commerce Bank. Always in a suit and tie you could set your watch by how Ben spent his day. In the morning he would go to the office. Mid-morning he would go to the Borough Hall. At exactly 1 pm he would go to his beloved country club for lunch with his friends and after lunch take a short nap in his office.
Ben and Alice were admired, respected and loved by all who knew them. They will be missed by their family and friends.
Alice and Ben were a true couple in every sense of the word. It is fitting that they both passed exactly one month apart. Neither one wanted to leave the other.
Visitation for Alice and Benedict will be held on Friday, February 28th, 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at St. Therese Church, 120 Monroe Avenue, Cresskill.
