Obituary

Bridget O’Connor, 84, of Mahwah, formerly of Dumont, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Patrick O’Connor (2011). Bridget was the loving mother of Noreen Twiss and her husband Edward, Patricia MacEwen and her husband Robert, Bernadette O’Connor and John Senos, and Kerri Compton and her husband Thomas. A great joy in her life were her six grandchildren: Taylor, Connor and his wife Alexandra MacEwen, Megan and Colin Twiss, and Tommy and Caroline Compton. She was a cherished sister of her surviving siblings, Mary Greaney, Patrick Sullivan and his wife Tess, Donal Sullivan and his wife Madeline, Jeremiah Sullivan and his wife Christina. In addition to her siblings she is survived by sisters-in-law Phyllis Sullivan, Pauline Sullivan, and Joan O’Connor. Bridget was predeceased by her brothers, Michael, James, and John Sullivan. Bridget will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. 

Bridget was born on April 28, 1940 in Cahersiveen, County Kerry, Ireland to Nora (née Sullivan) and Jeremiah Sullivan. She immigrated to Inwood, New York in 1959, before settling in Dumont in 1973. She was a caregiver, devoting her life to the health and happiness of her family and others. Her final years were spent at her daughter Noreen’s home in Mahwah, NJ. 

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 4-8 PM at Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, 161 Washington Avenue, Dumont, NJ 07628. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 9:30 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 280 Washington Avenue, Dumont, NJ 07628. Bridget will be laid to rest beside her husband at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the following organizations:
