Obituary

John P. Connolly, 94, of Dumont, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024. He is survived by his three loving daughters, Debra (John Polbos) Connolly, Denise (John) O’Leary, and Doreen (Charles) Bauer. John is predeceased by his beloved wife, Alice (née Vanden Broek), who passed in 2006.

Born on July 26, 1930, in Westwood to Margaret (née Heaney) and Patrick Connolly, John grew up in Old Tappan, N.J. During the Korean war he proudly served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. After his service, he had a fulfilling career as a printer at DeTroy Bergen Lithographers in Fair Lawn.

John was a devoted family man, and he will be dearly missed by his cherished family and friends. He found great joy in spending time with his seven grandchildren: Brianna and Erin Polbos, Brian and Kaitlyn O’Leary, and Charles, Olivia, and Lucas Bauer. A lifelong Giants fan, John never missed a game, and he loved sharing his passion for sports. He also enjoyed his time at the Dumont Senior Center, he loved line dancing and other activities. Additionally, he was a member of Old North Reformed Church in Dumont. John had a special friendship with Barbara Shields, who brought joy and companionship to his life in recent years.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date, with the inurnment of his cremains at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in John’s memory to Old North Reformed Church, Dumont, NJ or a charity of your choice.

John’s legacy of love and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
