Helen Erna Schaars, 82, resident of Arizona since 2005 (formerly of Palisades Park, NJ), passed away peacefully on May 1, 2024. Devoted mother of Walter Wiegand and Lorraine (Matthew) Dunich. Cherished grandmother of Heather, John, Leighanne, Rebekah, Levi, Rachael, Elsa and Miles. Loving aunt of William III (Mona) Harrison, John Harrison, the late Donna (Jim) Ryan, Ryan Schaars and Ethan (Emily) Schaars. Survived by many great and great, great nieces and nephews. As well as, her twin sister Emilie (predeceased William II) Harrison and her brother Richard (Patti) Schaars. Helen adored her pets, most especially her canine companion, Sonny.
Helen was born in Englewood, NJ to Frieda (nee Jungclaus) and Walter Schaars. She graduated from Cliffside Park High School and attended Fairleigh Dickinson University. Helen loved technology. She educated herself with many computer programs and excelled both professionally and in her free time. She worked for many big corporations including British Leyland, Volkswagen, Maxell, Lever Brothers and Lipton as a professional secretary. In her free time she enjoyed sewing, making cards and playing games on her computer, which she did up to her last year of life. She also found a natural beauty in horses and was very fond of them.
Memorial Visitation Saturday, July 13th, 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, with a Service immediately following at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, 161 Washington Avenue, Dumont. Helen’s cremains will then be laid to rest at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
