Margaret A. Scallo (née Mullen), 86, of Dumont, NJ, passed peacefully at her childhood home surrounded by her loving family on February, 14, 2024. Predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Frank Scallo (2018), of Cliffside Park, NJ.

Born at Holy Name Hospital, Teaneck, NJ, to Lillian (née Nicholas) and Frank Mullen, Margaret grew up in Dumont, NJ, along with brothers Sonny, Harry and Francis Mullen and graduated from Dumont High School. After marriage she moved to Washington Township, NJ, with Frank in 1962.
After being a den mother for the Cub/Boy Scouts, class mother at Jesse F. George and Brookside schools, and numerous other tasks, Margaret returned to the workforce in the field of word processing, working for companies Word Tronics, Glen Rock, NJ, Prentiss Hall, Englewood, NJ, Fairleigh Dickinson College, Rutherford, NJ and Community Life, Westwood, NJ, before gradually transitioning to companies in Manhattan, NYC. She was in the process of starting her own company Mag Media from her Washington Township home when in 1985 was tragically involved in an auto accident that almost ended her life and put her professional career on hold.
Recovery from the accident was a long and arduous process. In 1988 Margaret and Frank relocated to Fripp Island, South Carolina where they resided for almost ten years until the tragic death of their eldest son, Dennis. They returned to NJ briefly before relocating to Front Royal, Virginia where they lived for eight years then moved to Saylorsburg and Wernersville, PA. to be closer to family. After Frank’s passing, Margaret returned to NJ and resided in her childhood home until her passing.
She and Frank were known and loved by many. Their hearts and door were open to all, no matter who or where. They were both friend and mentor to so many and instrumental in helping wherever they were able. May their memory live on in all the lives they touched.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 3-7 PM, at the Frech McKnight Funeral Home, 161 Washington Avenue, Dumont, NJ, Saturday, February 17, 2024 with a repast to follow at Baccari Grille in Township of Washington. Burial is private.
