Stephen John Cunningham, 71, of Dumont, NJ passed away peacefully on December 22, 2023. Beloved
husband of Lydia (née Maquino). Devoted father of Brian Cunningham. Cherished nephew of Barbara
Belcastro. Caring cousin of Michael and John Oates, Lisa Belcastro, and Robert Cuoco.
Stephen was born in Brooklyn, NY to Madeline (née Dougherty) and John Cunningham. Moving to
Dumont, he was a devoted resident for 20 years. He worked in law enforcement as a Peace Officer for the
New York State Office of Mental Health for 25 years prior to his retirement in 2018. Stephen was proud
of his Irish heritage, and he had a great fascination and found joy in radio communicating, specifically,
the ham radio and short wave radio. He also took interest in oldies music, Cousin Brucie, classic movies,
and was a member of the New York Fire Patrol.

Visiting will be on Wednesday, December 27th , 4-8 PM at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, 161
Washington Avenue, Dumont, NJ. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 28th , 11AM at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Dumont. Interment at Rockland Cemetery, 201 Kings Highway, Sparkill, NY. Donations in Stephen’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s R.C. Church, 280 Washington Ave, Dumont, NJ 07628.
