Teresa O’Malley, born on October 1, 1943, in Doon, County Offaly, Ireland, to parents Patrick and Mary (Ryan) Maloney, passed away on November 1, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Martin O’Malley, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and cherished moments. Teresa was raised in Doon until she immigrated to the United States in 1963, at the age of 20.
Teresa and Thomas met in the United States, where they married on June 14, 1969, in Queens, NY. Together, they raised three children and built a strong, loving family. Teresa worked at the Irish Tourist Board, Liberty Travel, Haworth Public Schools, and most recently as an electrician’s assistant (for Tom O’Malley), retiring on January 14, 2022.
Teresa will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support as a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the heart of the O’Malley family, and her love and care touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her role as a devoted wife and mother, Teresa was a pillar of the Irish-American community. She held a deep love for her Irish heritage and actively participated in various community activities that celebrated and upheld this rich cultural tradition. She shared the honor with her late husband as the Grand Marshals of the Bergen County St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 2015.
Teresa was an active member of the American Legion in Cresskill, NJ, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in Dumont, NJ. She also enjoyed kayaking and volunteering her time with support organizations, notably the American Special Children’s Pilgrimage Group. While with the ASCPG, she had visited Lourdes, France, as an aide on multiple occasions during Easter Holiday week.
Teresa’s love and legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She is survived by her cherished children: Maureen Abbate (Antonio), John O’Malley (Lizabeth Anderson), and Terri Amy (Michael), and her beloved grandchildren: Ethan, Meghan, and Owen O’Malley, and Giovanni and Meghan Abbate. She is predeceased by her brothers Jackie and Seamus. She is survived by siblings Patrick, Maureen, and Charlie. Her memory will forever be treasured by those who had the privilege of sharing in her life.
A wake will be held on Monday, November 6, 2023, from 4 PM to 8 PM at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave, Dumont, NJ 07628.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 280 Washington Ave, Dumont, NJ 07628. All those attending the mass are asked to meet directly at the church no later than 10:45 AM.
A repast event will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, from 2 PM to 4 PM at Tommy Fox’s Public House, 32 South Washington Ave, Bergenfield, NJ 07621.
