Gary J. Winkel, 67, of Dumont, died peacefully on January 7, 2023. Beloved husband of Denise (née Challener). Loving father of Brian (Kaitlyn) Winkel and Joseph (Brianne) Winkel. Cherished grandfather of Lucas, Brody, Jake and Austin. Dear brother of Bill (Marilyn) Winkel, Lynn (Ira) Palefsky and Lori (Skip) Vincent. Also survived by his step-brother Jim (Jennifer) VonDoehren, his step-sister Rae (Cindy) Von Doehren, his sisters-in-law Barbara Cardo, Peg Challener, and brother-in-law Tim (Monica) Challener, many nieces and nephews, and his best friends, Kevin and Regina Gynegrowski. Predeceased by his parents Elise (née McDermott) and William Winkel, and his sister Joan VonDoehren.
Gary was born in Englewood, NJ, and was a truck driver with IGM Granite & Marble of North Bergen. He was Cub Master for his sons’ Cub Scout Pack 23, and also coached Little League, basketball and football for his sons, and was a die-hard Yankee and Jets fan, along with his family.
Visiting Tuesday, January 10th, 3-7 PM at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, 161 Washington Avenue. Funeral Mass Wednesday, January 11th, 9:30 AM, St. Mary’s R.C. Church. Interment George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Gary’s memory to the Dumont PBA or Dumont Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
