Obituary
Michael J. Grimaldi, 85, of Dumont, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 20, 2022. He was the beloved husband of 57 years to Sylvia (nee Sorrentino), devoted father to Laurie Damiano (James), Linda Sherlock (Gerard), and Lisa Grimaldi. He is also survived by his brother Richard Grimaldi (Gail) and predeceased by an endeared brother James. The greatest joy in his life was his family, especially his cherished grandchildren Allison Williams (Derek), Robert Eberhardt, and Kristen and Daniel Sherlock. He was beloved by his extended family including his many nieces, nephews, and grand dogs.
Michael was born in Yonkers, NY to Parisina and James Grimaldi. He pursued a career in finance as a self-employed accountant and was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Mike was an avid runner and was often spotted jogging his favorite routes through the neighborhood. Even well into his 80’s, he enjoyed competing and collecting medals in local 5K races in both the Dumont area and near the family’s treasured beach home in Cape May, NJ. He loved to read and was a life-long learner, a devoted Yankee fan, an encyclopedia of trivia knowledge, and a history buff who always enjoyed engaging in lively political debates. He will be most missed for his gentle and calming personality, his extraordinary patience, his dry sense of humor and his eternal optimism.
Visitation will be held at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home on Sunday, October 23rd, beginning at 1:00pm and concluding at 5:00pm. The Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Mary’s R.C. Church at 11:00am on Monday, October 24th. Entombment will follow at Garden of Memories Mausoleum in Washington Township, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael’s name to one of the charities that he held close to his heart: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, The National Brain Tumor Society, or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
