Obituary

Eunice Mary Boland, 99, of Haworth, NJ, formerly of Bergenfield, NJ, passed away on March 21, 2021. She died in the comfort of her home surrounded by loving family. She was born to John and Hortense Martin on June 21, 1921 and lived in Dumont, NJ until she married.

Eunice had 3 great loves in her life. Richard Boland, whom she married on Oct. 18, 1946 her family and her music. She was an accomplished pianist who was a student of Juilliard. From the time she was in grammar school until her early 90’s she was a sought after accompanist. She was Music Director at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church in Bergenfield for. 27 years, providing music for masses, weddings, funerals and special events.  She also was a volunteer ESL teacher, a member of the Tenafly Contemporary Women’s Club and an accompanist for the Tenor Tones Women’s choir.

Eunice and Richard raised 9 children in a loving home where an open door and a hot tea kettle were a constant.  This was true for successive generations, with grandchildren and great-grandchildren being the recipients of the same generosity.

Eunice is survived by her children: Dale Shafer, Margaret Nogaki and spouse Douglas, Amy O’Neil and spouse James, John Boland and spouse Debbie, Robert Boland, Judy Boland and spouse Dan Entriken, Susan Hurley, Theresa Vallone and spouse Anthony, 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Richard Boland and son Richard Boland Jr.

The family will be receiving visitors at the Frech-McKnight Funeral home on Sunday, March 28th, from 3-7 PM. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, March 29th, at 10 AM at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Hackensack Cemetery.
