Constance Carmel Cookson, “Dolly” age 94, of Haworth, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William J. Cookson, and her son, John Thomas Cookson.
Constance was born in Newark, N.J. to Peter Santoro and Carmela Fischette. After the early passing of her mother, Constance was raised by Sadie and Almon Doty of Plainfield, New Jersey. She graduated from Mount Saint Mary’s High School in Watchung, New Jersey and attended Georgetown University Nursing School. Upon graduation, she worked as a nurse at Georgetown Hospital in Washington D.C. where she met her husband Dr. William J. Cookson. Constance and William were married in Teaneck, New Jersey and raised their family in Haworth, New Jersey. While raising her family, Constance worked as a nurse at Sacred Heart School and volunteered at the church for many years. Constance’s faith was unwavering, providing her with support, comfort and joy throughout her life.
Survivors include her children, Kathleen Cookson, Brian Cookson (Anne), Patricia Cookson, Jean Marie Pignio (Salvatore). She was a cherished grandmother to Christopher Cookson, Christina Cookson, and Tyler Pignio. Constance is also survived by her long-time companion Louis T. Luca Sr. They enjoyed many years together loving the Lord and enjoying their life.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 30th 2019, at 11 AM in Sacred Heart Church of Haworth. Remains to be buried at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, N.J., at a later date.
